My friend wanted to invite me for lunch for my birthday, and as it was a kind of rainy day, we decided to not risk and instead of doing a terrace, eat somewhere inside.
“La table du 9” is a restaurant that I normally go in winter, as they have great starchy fresh food. And it always hits the right spot in cold winter days.

When we arrived a great smell was coming out of the kitchen, which didn’t help calming our hunger. Unfortunately 20 minutes later, no one had come to take our order, neither brought us bread.
I started to lose my patience… don’t mess with me when I am hungry. Every time she would say I am coming and would run to another table. With all the fairness she was the only one zig zaging and serving the room. The only help she had was someone just taking out the dishes.

When she finally came to our table, I told her that if she had came 5 minutes later; we wouldn’t be there as it had been already 20 minutes that we were waiting. She asked me to not “exaggerate” and continued by saying “anyway, what you want”. She was lucky it was already late and we were really hungry (and my friend had invited me), otherwise we would have left the place right that minute.
So I just replied to her that it wasn’t a way to talk to clients and thought that she can dream about any tip.

We shared an appetizer, and only then the bread decided to join our meal. She had taken a wrong order for the entree, so I ended up being the only one with a dish. My friend had to wait 10 more minutes before having hers…. Oh and no apologies!!!

The food is still good and fresh, although a bit too much olive oil in everything. I agree it gives a good taste, but don’t make swim my food in it.

So in summary, ok food, bad service, and “I don’t care attitude” which is the worst for me. Maybe they should make the staff live on tips like in the US. I am not saying the service would be better but at least they would work better to earn their tip, and even do it with a smile to have a bigger tip…

Yesterday, there was the bikini, beach towel and jewelry sale of friends, and a percentage of the profit would be going to an association called “Act In Kind”. So I went to see them and check out the beautiful stuff.
After the sale, my friends and I went to have a drink at “Le Soleil Rouge”, do you remember the wine and tapas place? Well if in winter it is a good spot, in summer not that much. As the weather was warm, everybody was outside, but different crowd this time. It seemed people who saw the crowd on the side walk… stopped. The wine was still good though, and the tapas … as long as you stick to the basics, fine. I would not advise any fish related tapas there (personal experience talking).
So after a while we wanted to go to a place where we could sit and nibble, as these tapas weren’t exactly what we were looking for. So we decided to go to “the Cottage” café. It is a restaurant on rive droite, just across the Richmond Hotel (actually it used to be their restaurant). The menu is composed of Mediterranean tapas, and they have a great terrace. The only thing I reproach them is the service. The owner keeps hiring these students, they are lovely but every time I go, either they forget to bring something or disappear on me. The restaurant lost a lot of lunch clienteles, simply because people had enough of waiting, and had limited time.
So last night before going there, I told to my friends, the food is great but don’t expect much about the service. And I wasn’t wrong, beside the fact that they missed one order, our pulpo didn’t seem very fresh. I didn’t even try it but the smell of it was unbearable. And they literally forgot us, no one came to see us for at least half an hour, at a point that we were about to leave without paying… even then not sure they would have noticed. The service crew is lovely but has no idea about service, or even the product they are selling. They brought this “artisanal” drink that was supposed to be with berries… The color was beautiful, but the taste was all chemical, and when you read the label, beside chemical formulas you couldn’t read anything else. So you start to ask questions about their “artisanal” teas and ice creams as well.
Thanks god most of the food is yummy, and makes you forget a little about the quality of service :)

Last I went to dinner at “Bistrot du Boucher”. Everybody knows about it in Geneva, either because they ate there or simply they saw the big caw outside the restaurant. I used to go a lot in the past and got few disappointed dinners so stopped. But few weeks ago my brother and sister tried again and they couldn’t stop talking about it. So last night was the redemption night. We went without booking so they gave us the “last” table which was by the door.
We all ordered our food, and finally got the appetizers, my salad with “chevre chaud” (warm goat cheese) could have been described as “few green leaves swimming in oil with burnt goat cheese filos”. I told myself well it is a steak house after all, so let’s wait the meat to really judge.
I was lucky, ordered a Steak Tartare, and it was delicious, and although I am not a French Fries girl, they were quite perfect; thin, long and crispy. Someone took a well done burger, one side of the burger was the way she ordered, well done, the other side was as raw as my Steak Tartare. And finally the bouquet was for the person who ordered the Filet de Boeuf cooked Medium. It was literally burnt outside, impossible to even cut it. She sent it back, to receive when we were all done with our food, two pieces of meat so cooked that they looked and tasted like oily shoe soles.
When the owner, a lovely lady came and asked her, how was it this time; my friend said that this time it was overcooked and as she waited so long that she wasn’t hungry anymore. So the lovely owner, instead of telling her, sorry I won’t count this dish on your check, told her, oh sorry to hear that, at least is the beef good quality? Let me put it in an aluminum foil, so you can bring it home and eat later. And generous that she is, told her that she would like to offer her a desert.
So here we are receiving 3 of their famous chocolate and pear cake, one free, and an aluminum foil with 2 pieces of beef.
I don’t even know what to say, I mean if she had ordered pasta in a steak house, I would have told her, don’t get so high expectations… but who cares if it is a good piece of meat, if they don’t know how to cook it properly.
Lately I am getting addicted to Hell’s Kitchen, so I wonder where is Chef Ramsey to fire that cook?????
After leaving a great amount of money, we all left the restaurant unhappy, my friend gave the foil to the waiter and said actually you can keep it, cause won’t eat that beef. Would I go back? Definitely not; our table was placed in neverland of waiters and service, how many times do you need to reorder a drink to finally get it??? and disappointing food…
At the entrance I saw they were “Guide de Routard’” choice until 2005, I guess there is a reason why they stopped choosing this restaurant as an advice to travelers!!!!

Today I met a friend at “Senso” restaurant in Geneva. I have chosen the location, because been at their lobby several times for drinks and really liked it. I had dinner once in winter, the restaurant was empty. I know that they have a terrace and wanted to try it, so I could add a new restaurant with terrace in my city center list.

The city of Geneva, tries to discourage drivers to take their cars. All the outside parking spots (that are always full or closed for construction) can be used between 30 and 90 minutes. And believe me the city uses so many people to control it that if you are late 10 minutes, you can find yourself with a minimum fine of 40 USD, up to 160 USD. Sometimes I am thinking that those people are either bitter from life and it is their way of revenge, or they are like sales assistants, they work on commission. So unless you find an outside parking and/or you have a quick errand to do, you park in the closed parking. In the city Center, we have “Parking of Mont Blanc” and “Parking of Rive”. They are almost more expensive than the fines that you collect outside, so don’t know what the cheapest option is. And to top that Parking of Mont Blanc, is on construction to make our lives easy. What they do is they keep one side open, while they redo the other side.
It has been months that it started, and I don’t see any difference, the parking spots are so small that if you have a big car, it is a challenge to fit it. And on top of that, the parking is full of noise and dust, so make sure to wash your car when you leave….
I guess there is no way to get fresh air right now in Geneva; we have the ashes of the volcano Eyjafjallajokull outside, and the dust and smoke of the construction in the parking.
Anyway, finally I parked my car to join my friend at Senso. It is a located in place du Molard, and if you don’t know exactly where it is, you have big chances to miss it. Because it is hidden inside “the Passage du Rhone”. The decor is really nice, and the garden is cozy. It has a bar where you could imagine sipping your wine at night while waiting for your table. They have a great list of wine; the food menu is ok as well. So we sat and the hostess came to tell us the specials and left. The restaurant wasn’t that full, and she kept passing around and looking at our table but never came back. After 25 minutes, I lost my patience (and you know for me it is a record), and asked her if she mind taking our order finally. When I asked again about the specials, she answered me with arrogance, don’t bother we don’t have any left. Oh well I guess they made only 2 plates of that special, and off course it would be finished after 25 minutes wait.
We finally placed our order, the food came in 15 – 20 minutes, but they forgot to bring the drinks… My dish was ok, but my friend who ordered a fish suffered. Already it looked like a hospital food, and she said the fish was cold, and between us I don’t think it was cooked enough.
We finished our dishes and they got collected quickly, but had to wait another 10 min before the hostess decided to come and see us, and ask us if we wanted to see the desert menu…
Seriously, I think we should have left after waiting that much to place our order. The service used to be good, but today it was a disaster. I wished, I have seen the manager, because I would have few words to tell him about the service…

My friend told me that when they opened few years ago, you had to book 3 days in advance, no need to say that it is not the case today, and we all know why….
