Tag Archive: happy hour in geneva

Last night with my three ladies I went to try out “Les Trois Verres” (The Three Glasses)… I guess that makes me the bottle, lol.

This restaurant is one of the latest additions in Geneva’s food industry, and I always heard very good comments about it.

After our “short” happy hour at Capocaccia that finished at 10pm, we were all happy and ready to eat something.

In Geneva, the restaurants tempt to close quite early, I guess people don’t need to work that much… To my good surprise, “I Tre Bicchieri’s” kitchen is open until 11pm and guess what, it wasn’t empty at 10.30pm. When you don’t live in Geneva, this sounds a normal thing, believe me in our city, this is a big deal.

So after spending 10 minutes choosing which table we wanted to sit (my three ladies are as demanding as I am), we found our happiness.

The menu has lots of variety; several kind of salads, lots of pastas, fish and meat.

We have all started with Tuna Tartare. I am sure by now you know I don’t eat onions and every time it is a deal breaker to ask them to prepare my tartare fresh with no onions. Well, good news, their tuna tartare with mango, doesn’t have onions, and it is delicious.

For my main courses, I opted for a Filet Mignon. I eat my filet rare; the instruction seems easy, but very often I receive it either overcooked or not enough cooked (where the outside of the steak is burned and the inside cold).

I am sure they hate me when I send it back, but a good cook should know how to make it.

At the restaurant “Les Trois Verres”, the cook made it perfect on the first go, so I give him a big A+

Overall, it was a great success. We ate and drank well, and we laughed a lot.

I will highly advise this restaurant and apparently you need to check it during happy hour. You have a lot of wine choices by the glass, and also a lot of single choices… I guess by the look.

I will probably check that in winter, so I could sit inside and enjoy their nice décor, wine and men.

So as I have told you last night it was les “les Vendanges de Genève; which is”The Grape Harvest of Geneva”.

After last year’s success, this year they decided to repeat the experience. The principle is simple: all the stores in Rue du Rhone (Geneva’s high end fashion street), and each store offers you a different wine to taste…

How to have access? Well you need to receive an invitation from a store and rsvp. Believe me between my mom, my sis and I we had quite a few invitations… I guess we are all shopaholics $) Anyway, and to be able to visit all the stores, you go to the store where you rsvp and they give you a bracelet.

Last year it was much stricter, but this year, stores were literally giving away the bracelets… I am happy for some people who didn’t receive an invitation. On the other hand call me snob if you want, but I thought this year it was too chaotic…

It was nice because they had installed tents on the sidewalks with music… the Geneva streets that are normally empty after 7pm, were black with people drinking and chatting. Let’s say a giant open air happy hour spot !!!!

The crowd… well basically all Geneva, either because they are direct clients, or they have a friend who received several invitations…

The fun part, everybody was looking for something else… You had some looking for stores who gave up good food…. Some who didn’t like wine… looking for bubbles … some looking for hot girlzz or boyzz ….

You see I would have been looking for all of the above, but as I am still trying to get rid of the spaghettis and foccacias of this summer…. no alcoholic drinks and no finger food for Nat. And about boyzzz… well for that I need a whole new blog ;) ))

Overall fun night, I say bravo Geneva, you really are trying… And I seriously think they should do a similar event just the last Thursday before Xmas… with lots of bubbles… so it would be an amazing way for people to get together before vacations, and finally a fun and great way to do the Xmas shopping!!!!

Shall we start a petition?!?!

When my friend asked me to join them for her birthday week-end in Sardinia on the boat, I knew the only thing that could hold me in Geneva were the flights… First of all I knew it was gonna be a great group, and second haven’t been to Costa Smeralda (the Emerald Coast)for years, so it would be great to rediscover everything.

After checking all the options, I decided to go with Easy Jet to Olbia, otherwise I needed to change 3 flights.
For the people who don’t know Easy Jet, it is an airline that seems cheap. The flights are not expensive, but you have to add your luggage, which costs roughly 40 bucks; add that the “speedy boarding”, insurance and 16 bucks to use a credit card.
So basically when you add all the options it becomes more expensive then a regular company… and all this for a company who has delays 90% of the time, and also did I tell you that Easy Jet doesn’t assign you a seat, so it is like the bus, first come first served basis….. (why do you think I buy the Speedy Boarding???)
Oh well, as Easy Jet is the only company that offers direct flights from Geneva to Olbia, I shut up woke up at 4 am as the only flight was at 6.15am and made the best out of it… and come on it is only an hour and a half flight.

When I arrived to Olbia, took a cab to Cala di Volpe hotel so the tender could pick me up for the boat. This hotel which literally means the “Cove of the Fox” is by far the most expensive hotel in Sardinia. It has a great beach, and good restaurants. When I arrived it was empty, as the high season didn’t start yet and also I guess people don’t wake up at 8am in vacation…

That night we first hit “Phi Beach” for happy hour. Imagine a beautiful beach with a great sunset. Great music and hot Italians dancing… And you know me; I never go to a place in Italy without seeing a soccer player (the Italian celebrities). Didn’t miss it this time, next to us the yummy Lucas Toni with his girlfriend was dancing away, while paparazzi were trying to take his picture from a helicopter …

After the drink we had dinner at the boat and hit “The Billionaire Club”, famously owned by Flavio Briatore, former head of the Benetton Formula One racing team. This nightclub, used to be really happening couple of years ago when it opened, and Flavio tries to keep it that way by having extra expensive drinks, and asking his jet set friends to come and party.

The truth? Beside maybe few nights that you have someone interesting, it is full of little boys and girls spending the money of daddy. And when I say spending, I am not lying… as every time you open a mega magnum champagne bottle that costs thousand of Euros… (the regular bottle of Greygoose cost 1100 EUR, so I let you guess the rest of the prices), they make a huge fuss, with fire and music… these little kids, who have no idea about the crisis start a competition about who is going to open more bottles. I don’t want to see their families face when they see the credit card bills!!!
Beside them, you have few young ladies who are searching for a yacht owner or someone who will offer them a summer free of charge… but then again these special ladies are everywhere.

As we didn’t open a magnum, they tried to treat us like a second zone citizen, and take away one of our tables, but the minute they heard we were staying on a boat, everything went back to order ;)
Anyway, as usual we had fun, drank and danced… the top of my night? When I finally managed to cross the crowd in the heat and humidity and went to the bathroom, which had AC!!! Did I tell you that even the Billionaire uses the old trick of killing people with heat so they consume more?

Oh well, my first day in Sardinia was great and quite full and fun. Thank you to be born Frederique, so we had this great day. Happy birthday again!!!!

With the beautiful weather, so many events are happening in Geneva… yes yes Geneva is happening. Last night I first went to the President Wilson hotel, for a Brazilian bikini fashion show, and then joined my friends at Cotton Pub, for a Moët & Chandon event.

So let’s start with The President Wilson, honestly I never think to go there near the pool at the Bayview restaurant, but I think I should start considering it… I am planning to go on a regular night to taste the food, but right now I can say that the setting is amazing. You have a great view of the lake, it is not too big, nor too small …(is it me or I just sounded like “Goldie Locks”? )

Anyway, so last night there was the fashion show of a Brazilian bikini line, sold exclusively at the hotel’s spa. As nothing is easy in Geneva, arriving to the hotel was a big challenge as well. I guess every person who saw the sun, took his/her car to verify if it was real or not. The Mont – Blanc bridge was packed. Once arrived at the hotel, the valet refused to take any more cars and asked everyone to use the Hotel’s parking. The only problem was that my friend who had arrived before, tried it, but the door of the parking was blocked, so nobody could get in or get out…. So after turning half an hour in Paquis to find a spot, I literally left my car on the side of the road. Once arrived to the promise land, between the nice weather, the Brazilian music, and the models wearing the beachwear walking around the pool… I finally realized that summer is on. They were off course offering Caipirinhas and all other sort of Curaçao based cocktails. Personally, I just went with my bubbles.

After Le President, I went to meet up with some other friends at the Cotton Pub. I have to admit I am not a big fan of that pub… and I never got the reason why people are very into it, but last night they were doing their yearly Moët & Chandon event, so I decided to try it out. It consists to promote the bubbles by decreasing their price, a champagne bar and tents are installed, and it seriously attracts lots of people. It was full from 6pm the happy hour till, 2.30 am where I finally decided that it was time to stop my bubbles juice fasting and I needed to go home and get some food. It was nice to see some old friends in the crowd, but interesting also to see few interesting (and I am being nice) people, who seemed to be there simply because they saw the light and the crowd in this case.

So even though I am not a Cotton Pub addict, I would try to catch up this event, because it was really fun. Tonight there is another happy hour event at the President, so if you are in town and don’t know what to do, you should simply swing by ;)
